About the company

George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals was created in 2017 after the merger of George Hartnett Funerals and Metropolitan Funerals, bringing together more than 145 years of experience across 12 locations in Brisbane, Redland, Logan and Moreton Bay. The business has served families across Queensland since the 1940s.

At the Aspley location, Penny has been Location Manager since 2005, having started in the funeral industry in New Zealand in 2000 before moving to Australia. The refurbished Aspley chapel and wake facilities are also available for community groups to use.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Cremation and funeral arrangement services sit at the heart of what this Aspley funeral director offers, and the families who have turned to it describe a consistently careful and well-organised approach. Several customers mention Nate by name, noting his compassion, the clarity of his explanations and the way he guided them through decisions when grief made details difficult to absorb. Penny also recurs in accounts, praised for ensuring that a family's wishes for a celebration of life were carried out, while Jess is credited with arranging a memorial service tastefully and with recommending a celebrant, caterers and flowers.

A point that comes up often is the strength of communication, with families appreciating regular updates and step-by-step guidance about what needed to happen next. Reviewers repeatedly mention the courtesy and genuine care of the wider team, including the staff who attended a service at a lawn cemetery and were both efficient and considerate. Floral arrangements for a coffin topper are described as exquisite, and the refurbished venue is noted as lovely. The respect shown across more than one generation of the same family's funerals runs through many of the accounts.

Nate and his team at George Hartnett Funerals managed my Aunt's funeral with care and respect. Organising everything can be quite overwhelming as there are a lot of details to take care of. Nate explained everything in great detail and was able to guide us when we were a bit foggy. I appreciated the regular communication and their professionalism throughout. I felt like my Aunt was well cared for and that her wishes for her final goodbye were fulfilled. Highly recommend.

I attended my cousins funeral managed by Geo Hartnett today at St. Gerard Majella Church at Chermside West. The Staff were lovely, very respectful and efficient right through to organising the Pall Bearers. Could not recommend them highly enough. They provided umbrellas to protect patrons from the sun, and water for all the attendees at the cemetery also. Well organised machine. Thank you.

I was so pleased with the four people who attended us at our mother's funeral at Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetary yesterday 27th Nov. They were so caring towards us and yet so efficient in their duties. Nothing seemed to much bother for them. Thank you again Liam Keighron

Thank you Penny Taylor and GHM Funerals Aspley. You were very kind and compassionate. During what is a very difficult and emotional time, you explained everything we needed to know for mum’s farewell, step by step, very clearly. We can not thank you enough for your guidance and professionalism.

Thank you Corey and team for providing support and excellent service for our mother's funeral. Communicating with Corey was easy and he went that extra mile to ensure all went smoothly. ** mum would have been delighted that she was chauffeured by young women on both occasions. Both young female drivers were attentive and above all competent drivers . Also thank you Nathan for providing all documentation. A big help. Regards Rosa

In May this year, our lives were shattered by the unexpected loss of my late husband. Losing him was hard enough, but facing all of the choices and arrangements that need to be made in those first couple of weeks was crippling. Then we met with Nate Lord at GHMF Aspley. He gets it. He really gets it. He guided us through the experience, helping us see through the emotional overwhelm, and showing us the patience and compassion of a saint. And something about his presence was truly calming and reassuring, like he was sharing his strength to help us get through the worst time in our lives. Without his calm, respectful, professional and compassionate support, both while planning the funeral and on the day, we would never have achieved the beautiful service and burial that truly honoured the man we loved. On behalf of our whole family, I would like to thank Nate and the entire GHMF team for the incredible and invaluable service you provide.
