What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Headstone vases and the timing of monument work feature among the concerns raised at Abbey Funeral Home, where the handling of promised arrangements has drawn mixed feedback. Families consistently acknowledge the compassion and professionalism of staff, and reviewers describe being guided patiently through the practical steps of losing a relative, with expertise in paperwork and cremation arrangements noted.

Named tributes recur: Wayne is thanked for the dignity shown to one mother, Nancy McIntyre; Chris Evens for integrity carried from a first meeting through to a burial at Narromine; and Dianne for extra care in the days before an interment. The firm's work covers cremation services, burials and monumental masonry, including headstones and vases. Against this, complaints surface repeatedly.

Reviewers describe a promised notification about a cremation that never came, a requested keepsake that was not supplied, insufficient seating for elderly and disabled mourners, too few orders of service, an obituary book handed over empty, and vases awaited for months past a death anniversary. Communication and follow-through on agreed details are the points raised most often, with little response reported from the owner, even as the initial consultation is remembered as compassionate and efficient, leaving families to weigh genuine warmth of manner against disappointing delivery.

Overall I was disappointed with our experience at Abbey's. The initial consultation went really well. Tara was compassionate and efficient at organising the paperwork required to deal with our dad's cremation. After this however, lots of small things added up. We asked to be informed when the cremation was going to be, this never happened. My dad's partner asked for a lock of his hair which she never received. She rang to enquire how things were going and no one seemed to know what was going on. When she asked if they could call her (my brother and i don't live in Dubbo) when the ashes were ready to be collected, she was told no, she would have to call herself. Once the death certificate arrived, I was contacted and told it would be posted to me. It never arrived and I was concerned it had been lost in the mail. Two weeks later, my brother was visiting Dubbo and called in to find it had never been posted. Considering the cost of the cremation through Abbey's was at the higher end of the range, we have been disappointed with their service.

Abbey Funeral Home was supportive, professional, understanding, and compassionate. Tara definitely made the process of organising a memorial for our father stress free, and more importantly helped us to create a funeral that suited us and let us say goodbye in a way that felt positive and complete. Thank you Tara, if I could give you a 6th star I would ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If zero stars, I would rate that for this place. Couldn’t run a bath or grow ivy up a wall. Didn’t get the hymn I wanted, not enough chairs for elderly or disabled. Not enough order of service printed. Barely any response from the owner. I was promised via email from the owner that the obituary books would be available to sign by guests on the day, this did not happen. I just got handed an Empty book in a box. Service disjointed, no flow. Abbey rudely changed the time from 11am to 10.30am, making it difficult for travellers. When visiting the grave site the next day, they didn’t even have my son James’ birth date on the cross. Not once was I consulted about this or anything else, considering it was my eldest Son 23.. I’ll have to go back with a texta and write it on myself. I’ve never seen a cross above a grave without a date of birth. Did not get any responses to my emails.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. One bumbling mistake after another. Ashes put in wrong sort of container, given another person's death certificate, couldn't locate my dad's personal belongings, they now believe that they 'might' have been cremated with him. And the whole time I am the one who has had to continuously follow up with them to find out details. And all I got was 'oh sorry'.

Absolutely professionalism and understanding for our family at such a sad time. Tara was instrumental in handling our father’s funeral remotely for us, she made the process from start to finish incredibly easy which was such a relief for us. All logistics and paperwork were handled by her with such kindness, she was so helpful. Julie and team were wonderful on the day of the funeral. I cannot recommend Abbey staff enough, they took all the stress and worry away from us at such an emotional time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - the Trimboli family.
