About the company

W Larcombe & Son Funerals is a family-owned funeral director based in Dubbo, serving the Central West for generations. It is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association of Australia. The company provides funeral services, monuments and headstones, and floristry. Monuments are designed and produced on-site, including stone cutting, polishing, and letter engraving, and existing memorials affected by time and weather are restored.

W Larcombe & Son operates St Andrew's Chapel on Wingewarra Street, a non-denominational venue for funeral and memorial services and after-service gatherings. The chapel includes a hall, kitchen, and flexible spaces suitable for both small and larger services. The company works with families to ensure each farewell reflects personal wishes, cultural traditions, and religious beliefs. Services may be held in a church, chapel, crematorium, graveside, or at a location chosen by the family.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Dubbo and the surrounding country districts form the setting for a funeral director and celebrant service whose favourable accounts centre on professionalism and efficiency on the day, with services described as running smoothly even when large numbers of relatives were involved. Various customers describe staff guiding them step by step through the arrangements, including prepaid funeral plans and matters involving the cemetery, and sorting out difficulties that arose along the way. Kim and other team members are named for the compassion and support offered when a service had to be organised at short notice, with one family noting they felt well supported throughout.

Respectful, honourable treatment of clients is mentioned repeatedly. Alongside this praise, a number of reviewers report a disappointing experience, describing staff as businesslike and insufficiently compassionate, and raising concerns about the level of training and support given to employees handling arrangements. Difficulties and delays in communication around monument and headstone supply and installation, and unhappiness with multiple aspects of a funeral conducted after the business changed hands, also appear in several accounts. Quotation and billing practices attracted complaint, with some families feeling payment was pursued ahead of the service itself.

Kim and the ladies were exceptional with 4 days to organize a funeral. They were all compassionate and professional and we couldn’t have felt more supported.

We used W Larcombe and Sons, Dubbo for my father in-laws funeral early February From the first meeting we were unhappy, however it had been my father in/laws specific request that we use this company so we persisted (we later learned that they had changed hands after our Dad had written his request, had we know this we would not have proceeded with them) We were extremely disappointed and unhappy with every aspect of their service (or lack of) at a time when you need support and compassion and a company to step up and takeover the arrangements for a loved ones funeral - something you would expect from a funeral home - to help ease your burden, W Larcombe did the opposite and only added to our stress and anxiety We literally had to do everything to organise the funeral they offered no assistance Afterwards we needed a breakdown of costs for probate and assets disbursement and despite requesting, in writing, 3 times (once to the owner directly) our request was met with no response whatsoever I would NEVER use or recommend this company

Larcombes conducted my brother’s funeral in a small country town. Even though it was well out of Dubbo and they had to deal with a lot of family members, they did it very well and the funeral went as well as a funeral can. Polite and efficient, I can recommend them.

Called with an odd request - looking for help with locating my grandmother's grave to see if they have any more info in their archive than what the historical society has (Larcombe & Sons are listed on the burial records). Barbara, who answered, was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken with in customer service in my life, barking repeatedly "I don't know how you think I can help you!" Finished the call as politely as I could, but shaking and in shock. I sincerely hope folks who are in active grief are not spoken to the same way.

Staff is rude and have no compassion. We decided to use a different funeral home as we were having to chase up for information, staff wouldn’t organise transport of our loved ones body so we could put him to rest. Disgusting they need to close up and get out of this business as it’s a sensitive time for families
