Funeral directors · Melbourne

How much does Funeral directors cost in Melbourne? (2026 price guide)

A basic funeral typically costs $4,000-$8,000, covering essentials like transfer of the deceased, a coffin, documentation and a simple service, while a fuller service with a memorial venue, catering and a higher-spec coffin usually runs $9,000-$15,000 or more. Cremation-based funerals are generally cheaper overall than burial once cemetery and plot costs are factored in.

Price is driven by coffin choice, whether burial or cremation is chosen (burial adds cemetery and plot fees, often $3,000-$8,000 extra), venue and catering for the service, transport distances, and any additional items like flowers, celebrant fees or death notices.

Ask for an itemised quote up front covering every cost, including third-party fees like cemetery, crematorium and celebrant charges, so there are no surprises - reputable funeral directors will provide this without hesitation.
