About the company

Berry Funeral Directors has supported Adelaide families for over 85 years. The business began in 1934 when Chas A. Berry established Charles Berry & Son, and his son Geoff joined the funeral home shortly after World War II.

The business is now run by grandson Simon and great-grandsons Jack and Alex, and it operates today from the Norwood Funeral Home.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Funeral direction, cremation and memorial services in Adelaide recur throughout feedback for this Norwood funeral home, with families consistently describing dignified and compassionate care from the initial arrangements through to burial or cremation. Something that features in review after review is the way staff coordinate every element of a service, liaising with clergy and other providers so that families are free to focus on the farewell itself. Named team members are singled out repeatedly.

Joey Everett is thanked for honouring cultural wishes and for never rushing a family through any stage, Alex Forster for gentle and respectful management of arrangements, Rachel for warmth and for suggesting a celebrant who suited the occasion, Trev for attentiveness and professionalism when a funeral had to be arranged at short notice, Jill for helpful communication from the office, and Chris for responsiveness. The chapel is described as beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with an ambience suited to reflection and access for wheelchairs. Reviewers also mention follow-up touches, including a lavender plant sent after a service, and the consideration shown to bereaved grandparents and extended family. Reliability, clear communication and a quiet, unobtrusive presence emerge as the themes families value most.

We were pleased with all aspects of our father's memorial service. Special mention to Alex Forster for his efforts. He made a difficult day a real celebration. Thank you

My beloved husband passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in late 2025. At a time of almost unbearable heartache, Charles Berry & Son greatly eased the distressing task of making funeral arrangements close to Christmas, a time when public jollity starkly contrasted with private grief. Today, on the eve of Good Friday, I received a small lavender plant with a note, suggesting I plant it in my 'garden of memories'. Actually, my garden of memories flourishes in my heart, and is evergreen. Nonetheless, I was moved by this nice touch. I highly recommend the services of Charles Berry & Son.

I was disappointed with Charles Berry and Sons for my beloved father’s funeral. They missed key elements that disrupted the service. The quality of the life steaming was poor. When concerns were raised, no accountability was taken and I was rudely dismissed. As, I said to them ‘You only get one chance to farewell your loved one’ and they missed it. A lot of money was spent for poor customer service and experience.

I'm so grateful to Berry's Funeral Home for the support they gave during such a difficult time. Saying goodbye to my partner was heartbreaking, but both Chris and Robyn made everything feel that little bit easier. They took the time to really listen to my thoughts and enable me to make decisions I was happy with. Nothing felt rushed or impersonal - just genuine help and care which resulted in a beautiful and fitting outcome. Both Chris and Robyn went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. From guiding us through the arrangements, to assisting guests in the rain with umbrellas, they truly thought of everything. Thank you for helping us say goodbye to my partner in such a dignified and comforting way.

Berry Funeral Directors took care of my mother’s funeral service in a dignified, compassionate and respectful manner. Berry’s managed all aspects of the service right through to the burial. The manner in which Berry’s consulted with the family, engaged with the priest, coordinated service providers, and arranged and conducted the service assisted us to navigate a difficult period and process. I would particularly like to thank Joey for his kind and caring nature, professional approach and pleasant demeanor throughout all interaction with myself and other family members. I can’t recommend Berry’s enough and thank them sincerely on behalf of family and friends.

We held a service for my beautiful mother in law with Berry’s last week. From the moment I spoke to Joey on the phone he was compassionate and kind, helpful and attentive and made the whole process that much lighter. He helped us plan a service that was reflective of our loved ones life and helped us through each step. The staff on the day also mirrored his professionalism and kindness. Thank you Joey and Berry’s.
