I just want to say the biggest heart-felt thank you to Michelle. From the moment my brother and I walked in the door Michelle made us feel so comfortable. Our Uncle had passed away suddenly in Cannonvale and this was our first experience of dealing with a situation like this. Michelle’s compassion and kindness was so appreciated. She walked us through every step of the way explaining everything clearly. She so kindly offered to come in on Saturday to handover our beloved Uncle so my brother could take him back to NZ as he had requested in his wishes. I can’t express enough gratitude for the exceptional care and support we received from the team at Newhaven during one of the most challenging times in our lives. From the moment we walked through their doors, we were met with warmth and compassion that made a world of difference. Andrew, Michelle and Vicki demonstrated an extraordinary level of professionalism and patience. They took the time to listen to our needs and preferences, guiding us through every step of the process with sensitivity and understanding. Their attention to detail and willingness to accommodate our wishes made us feel truly cared for. In addition to their professionalism, the genuine empathy they showed us was incredibly comforting. They understood the emotional weight of our situation and offered support that went beyond just the logistical aspects of planning. It was evident that they were committed to honoring our loved one’s memory in a way that felt personal and meaningful. The facilities were beautifully maintained and every aspect of the service was thoughtfully arranged, and we felt supported throughout the entire experience. This is a long review but we have a history with Newhaven that we would like to share. Our family first engaged the services of Newhaven Funerals 24 years ago after the unexpected passing of my brother. His death occurred at the other end of the state, and all we wanted was to bring him back to Mackay as soon as possible. It was just before Easter, and we feared it would take ages, but Newhaven took care of everything. We were a mess, yet they handled every detail - even his wake - beautifully, ensuring everything went smoothly. At that time, my mother purchased a plot for herself and my father and arranged a prepaid funeral for herself. Years later, when my father died, we had a private service, and once again, Newhaven took care of everything. Now, all these years later, my mother has passed away, and I can’t express how comforting it was to find that the young man who had taken care of my brother all those years ago now owns the business. The dedication to service and values has remained strong. Our funeral director, Andrew, collected my mother from the hospital and cared for both her and us throughout the entire process. He also grew up in Mackay, like we have. While having a local wasn’t a necessity, it was reassuring to have that connection in such an emotional time. Because my mother was 92, many of the people who would have attended her funeral were no longer with us. After caring for her at home and being present for her final days in the hospital, we were exhausted. We decided to keep her service simple and private. Newhaven supported our wishes, even incorporating a tribute into her death notice without hesitation. When I couldn’t decide on the order of service, I left it to the staff, trusting their expertise - and they created something wonderful. On the day of the service, the weather was stifling, but we arrived to find a marquee set up, a thoughtful touch that made things more comfortable. The office team worked seamlessly behind the scenes, taking care of every little detail, making the entire process easier for us. Since my mother’s prepaid funeral was purchased 24 years ago, the value of the package had exceeded what we needed. Though this wasn’t a concern to us, David and Andrew sat down with me to explore ways we could utilize the remainder. They offered a range of additional services, which was greatly appreciated. Saying goodbye to a loved one is emotionally taxing, and funerals can be expensive. It’s reassuring to know that Newhaven values both compassionate care and financial fairness. As we left my mother’s service, I told Andrew - half jokingly - not to take it personally, but I hoped we wouldn’t need to see them again for a long time. However, when that time inevitably comes, we know exactly who we’ll call. Thank you all so much!

Andrew has been a very supportive professional for my mother in law’s funeral, she recently passed away at home. We feel supported during this hard time, especially feel being respected regarding our religious and cultural demands. My wife and I are very grateful for Andrew’s approachable attitude.
